Chefs for Chefs are currently working with our clients in the market town of Halifax, West Yorkshire, seeking to recruit a strong, experienced and hands-on Sous chef to join their brigade of 10.

The family run restaurant has recently taken on a new head chef who is well known on the local food scene, who is keen to build on the success of the last few years. This is a very busy town centre venue, doing comfortably 200 covers per day, as such we are seeking a sous chef who can lead the line and keep pace while ensuring that quality is consistently high.

The hours are 45 per week based on 5 days over 7, mostly straight shifts. There is a basic salary of around £30k to begin with, with a tips package on top. There is no live in accommodation unfortunately, however it is easily commutable, being only a few minutes away from both train and bus stations.

Candidate Role

  • Assist the head chef with the day to day running of the kitchen
  • Deputise for the head chef in his absence
  • Contribute to new menu ideas, dish development and specials
  • Train, develop and nature the junior members of the team
  • Ensure financial targets are met
  • Adopt and maintain the kitchen’s food safety and hygiene protocols
  • Work with the senior team to drive the business forward

Candidate Specification

  • A strong cooking background in a high-volume setting
  • Sous chef experience essential
  • Must be creative, forward thinking and driven
  • Have excellent time keeping, man management and personal skill
  • Ideally from a similar background establishment
  • Be professional and approachable
  • Be financially competent and able to cost dishes effectively
