Sous Chef- 4* Country Inn- Ripon


On the lookout for a Sous Chef to join a fresh food led country inn on the outskirts of Ripon North Yorkshire.

The property is a 14-bedroom 4* country inn that utilises the local Yorkshire suppliers in producing fresh dishes for guests to enjoy.

There are 5 members of staff in the kitchen with the head chef who is looking for someone to work alongside them in menu writing, running the kitchen on his absence to a high level and to train junior members of staff.

The average working week is 5 days over 7 mostly straight shifts working around 45 hours a week for a salary of £23,000 per annum plus tips.

There is also the opportunity for assistants with relocation.


Candidate Role

  • Deputise for the head chef in their absence, working to achieve maximum consistency and guest satisfaction
  • Educate, train and develop junior members of the brigade
  • Assist to develop, create and cost new dishes for the menus, utilising the best of the seasonal ingredients
  • Work alongside the chef and senior management team to deliver the standards and practices that the proprietors require
  • Work alongside the Front of house team, ensuring both areas of the team are in unity
  • Monitor G.P margins, stock control and wastage
  • Manage and maintain the health and hygiene practices of the kitchen

Candidate Specification


  • Sous chef level previously preferred but not essential
  • All fresh food background is a must
  • Ideally a similar style property
  • Have excellent time keeping and personal skills
  • Be professional and approachable at all times
  • Own transport and local to the area
